Suggestions Any Senior Fashion Blog Should Include

By Brenda Thomas

If you're a style conscious senior with some extra time, you should think about sharing some of what you know about fashion for the mature woman with others. Senior women sometimes have trouble deciding what works for them at this time in their lives. When you decide to try your hand at writing a senior fashion blog, there are certain things that need to be included.

Right at the the top of your tip list should be trusting your instincts. Women of a certain age usually already know what looks good on them and what they need to avoid. This sense of their own style isn't something to abandon just because they are getting older.

Whatever you choose to wear needs to be comfortable and make you feel confident. Taking style risks isn't a bad thing. You just have to feel comfortable doing it. If you love heels for instance, go ahead and buy the four inch stilettos as long as you feel comfortable wearing them. If ballet flats are your choice, that's just as acceptable.

Style journals are something that are fun and useful to keep. If browsing the most popular fashion magazines is something you enjoy, you can pull out images of interest to you, and that you feel might look good on you. Some women maintain online journals, others cut and paste. You can pull yours out and take it with you the next time you hit the clothing stores.

You should advise seniors not to worry too much about trends. Colors, patterns, and hemlines go in and out of fashion all the time. Every season designers come up with new trends. Not all of these trends are suitable for mature women. Picking through what works for her and discarding what doesn't is good advice. Most seniors have classic staples in their closets that can be updated by changing a hemline or adding a scarf in this season's pattern or color.

Seniors should avoid getting stuck in a rut. It isn't unusual for people to get used to shopping in certain shops to the exclusion of others. When it starts to get hard to find clothing that fits properly, or has any appeal, at the old store, it's time to look elsewhere. There may be other shops in town that should be checked out. Going online is another option.

There are clothing staples that belong in every woman's closet. These include a great pair of jeans. You might prefer boot cut or straight leg. They are both classics. You can dress jeans up or down by adding casual or dressy accessories. You also need to have a pair of well fitted dress black or charcoal dress pants.

Every woman's closet should include a classic, hip length blazer. A crisp white blouse and a black pencil skirt should also be staples. Camisoles are inexpensive and can be used under sweaters, jackets, and sheer blouses.
