Discovering Discounts With A Travel Club Subscription

By Carol Campbell

Whether going on a domestic or international business trip or family vacation, it can often be expensive. While this is the case, a Travel Club Subscription can often cut the price of a trip in half. In other cases, budget minded individuals can often find discounts and plan a vacation without having to pay the dues which most of these organizations charge on an annual basis.

At the same time, many of these type clubs have a lot to offer when it comes to discounts. Regardless of the type of discount, most are often substantial. As such, the first step to selecting a club is knowing which mode of travel will be desired on a regular basis.

While clubs like AAA offer a number of discounts related to travel and lodging, there are also local offerings along with driver protection. As such, many individuals and families, even those whom do not travel as often as others often subscribe to a basic or upper level membership. For, in most areas, there are discounts offered on everything from amusement parks, restaurants and theaters to local concerts and festivals.

One club featuring discounted travel on an international basis is that of Dream Vacations. While focused on discounts for college students and luxury minded travelers, anyone whom can afford the dues and associated travel is welcome to join. While often considered one of the best clubs in the world, it should be noted that while the dues are often more than other organizations, the discounts are often far greater with regards to international tours.

Based on the original subscription business model associated with newspapers and magazines, most all clubs have an annual or lifetime fee associated with membership. While this is the case, there are some clubs which allow individuals to opt out of a membership for a termination fee. Whereas, there are others such as those that offer lifetime memberships which do not allow individuals to sell or transfer a membership.

When it comes to condominium and housing, there remains some debate as to whether fees associated in these areas are based on this business model. For, while there is no doubt that home and hotel based time-shares qualify, those whom only use a home as a primary residence often prefer to think of home ownership agency fees as part and parcel to home ownership rather than being a subscription.

One of the most expensive of these clubs in the United States is related to RV parks and campgrounds. Whether looking at an automobile association, camping, time share, travel or vacation club, it pays to read the fine print. After which, it can be often easier to make an educated decision about becoming a member.

While these clubs can often be a good option when looking for discounts on business and vacation travel expenses, individuals must remember that dues, especially those based on an annual basis can often rise in the future. As a result, some individuals can never afford to go on the trips offered by the club because of these dues. As such, it is recommended that individuals always inquire about the possibility of price increases, lifetime subscription options and read all the fine print before signing any type of paperwork related to a club of this nature or those related to time or vacation shares.
